Senior night is the biggest tradition for senior athletes, and recognizes the senior student athletes at Foran.

Senior Night is a popular event that many parents, family, friends, teammates and peers look forward to supporting and honoring the seniors for their accomplishments. Unless the team has made it into the Connecticut State Tournament or the SCC Tournament, the senior night game, meet, or match may be their last. Here’s a general description of each sports’ senior night:

Football: All of the underclassmen line up on the 60 yard line and the seniors are under the field goal post by the scoreboard. They announce each senior one by one as they walk down the field to the “F” where they have their photo taken with their close ones and then walk along the 60 to see their teammates. The seniors then  stand side by side on the home sideline.

Girls Soccer: Money is collected from the team which is then put towards the senior gift baskets and decorations for the stadium. On the night of the game, balloons are tied to the fences, posters are hung up on the bleacher fence, cups are put into the holes of the field fence spelling out each of the seniors’ numbers. The lockers are also decorated the day before the game after school. Taylor Lafountain states, “A tradition that gsoc does includes tie-dying the sheets and writing their name on it for them to see when they walk through.”

Boys Soccer: The seniors each get their own locker decorated with a poster, a gift basket, posters on the fence on the night of the game and after the game there is food and desserts. One tradition includes the seniors always give something to the coach.

Girls Swim and Dive: Senior posters and gift baskets are made by the underclassmen filled with pictures, a jar of Foran pool water, treats and stuffed animals. After the meet, all of the seniors get called one by one as they announce their college plans, major, events they swim/dive and a funny memory. The final part of the night includes the seniors getting their final lap or dive in the pool.

Volleyball: The underclassmen, including juniors, organized senior baskets, locker decoration, speeches, and put up posters and decorations in the gym for the seniors.

Boys Basketball: Foran senior Joseph Gaetano says, “For basketball after the game we had a party with food and gifts. For both of these we were also honored before the game.

Gymnastics: The gym is set up with posters and streamers as the seniors walk out one by one and receive their gifts and speeches that the underclassmen set up for them. After the meet, the whole team gets to enjoy food and desserts.

Boys Ice Hockey: A Mariners rug is put out in front of the net for the seniors to be called up one by one announcing their favorite hockey memory, give their parents flowers, and take a picture. A team dinner takes place before or after the game.

Girls/Boys Indoor Track: The ceremony is during a half time at one basketball game. They call out each senior as they walk out to center court.

Wrestling: The Foran wrestling team does a senior banquet to honor the departing seniors and commemorate their great wrestling accomplishments. Foran Senior Joey Cichowski says, “I appreciate that both the team members, coaches, and even the parents take the time to find ways to recognize us because it is a hard time realizing that you will never play those sports again, or at least most of us.”

Girls Tennis: The courts are decorated and each senior gets a gift basket and a speech given by an underclassmen or a junior. The speech is given after the matches, along with foods like cupcakes and snacks that the whole team can enjoy.

Girls Track and Field: Like most of the other sports, the seniors get posters and gift baskets filled with candy, in addition to matching sweatshirts for each of them. The seniors will also walk out with their parents as they’re being announced.
