An Up-Close Look into the Creations of Milford’s Gardeners

As summer is approaching, so are times of blossom for the Milford Community Gardens. Made up of around 250 Milford residents and 135 plots, the community gardens have been around since 1968 and are now currently run by the Milford Rec. Department. Here’s an early look into some of the plants and projects for Summer ‘24.

Field Mustard: Milford Resident grows a large plot full of healthy Field Mustard, a plant with bright yellow flowers, used mainly as a cover crop.

After a Long Day’s Work: Garden tools left in a community plot.

Budding Greens: A healthy plot of Multiflora Rose, a relative of common roses, is in season, with green leaves and a tinge of red lining.

Quiet Elegance: A small patch of Moss Phlox, also known as Creeping phlox, grows in the corner of a plot.

Full Bloom: Another patch of Moss Phlox in full blossom with small purple flowers.

Rose Beauty: A community plot is filled with multi-colored roses.

Digging Deep: A shovel is left in the middle of a plot.

Colorful Living: A birdhouse stands tall, displayed within the garden itself.

Guardian of the Garden: A garden gnome is placed near the entrance of the gardens.

Hi, my name is Maddie. I’m a Layout Editor on the paper and am currently a junior! I’ve been writing for the paper for 3 years, editor for 2. In my freetime, I like to read, run, and hang out with friends. I’m also the Sabre Captain for the Milford Fencing team and I run on the Varsity Cross Country team! I’m so excited for what this year will bring!

Hi my name is Alexandra Montero and I’m a senior at Foran High School. This is my third year participating in the journalism program. I am a competitive dancer, and I have been a part of Foran's cheer team for two years. I love the communities and bonds I have formed from Foran High School, and I am excited to fulfill them through my last year.
