January 20, 2025 will be a significant date in American history, as Donald Trump is sworn in as the 47th president of the United States of America. He is the second president in history to serve two non-consecutive terms along with Grover Cleveland.
The United States presidential inauguration takes place every four years on January 20, or 21, if the 20th falls on a Sunday, at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Trump won the electoral college vote against Kamala Harris on November 5 by a score of 312-226.
Social Studies department head Mr. Austin Cesare states, “Around or afternoon on January 20, the president takes the oath of office, usually administered by the chief justice of the United States, and then delivers the inaugural address.”
The change from Joe Biden to Donald Trump is the mark of a new administration, which Trump claims will “Make America Great Again.”
Cesare also adds, “It is the changing of the guard so to speak, from one presidential administration to the next. It is either the start of a new administration or the continuation of an administration if the candidate is re-elected president. It is when a president’s term begins and ends.”
Junior Pacey Larka also believes that this inauguration will mark a significant milestone in American history.
Larka states, “The presidential inauguration is important because it is an American tradition that highlights the peaceful transfer of the presidency. The president also takes the oath of office, showing their commitment to defend the Constitution. The inauguration unifies all Americans.”
With the 2024 election and inauguration in the books, Donald Trump is now the 47th president of the United States of America. He will take the stage by entering the oval office while having Vice President JD Vance by his side.
