Who is Miss Emerald Isle Callie Morrison?
“I am a senior at Foran. I run Cross Country, and I have been volunteering for about 5 years at the Irish Club here in Milford. Over the summer, I enjoy going to the beach and hanging out with friends. I work at Carvel and have been there for about 3 years.”
What is Miss Emerald Isle?
“It’s a role in the community that is meant for younger Irish girls to look up to. They do a lot of volunteering and giving back to the community. In order to apply, you have to be Irish and live in Milford. You need to go to many events, including an open house and a tea party. After that, there is an interview. This year, there were 4 girls competing for the title. After all that, one girl is selected to be Miss Emerald Isle and gets to be in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. And luckily, I got chosen this year.”

Why was this important to you?
“I always admired the girls in the parade, and once I started to get more involved, I realized that there was more to it than just the parade. The volunteer work and giving back to the community were very important to me. ”
Are there other events?
“There is more than just the parade; there are many events at the Irish Club. Some of these events include a pancake breakfast, Irish Fest, Tea party, plus many charity events.”
How does this affect the entire Milford community?
“Because the Irish Club and Miss Emerald Isle give so much to the community that affects everyone, not just Irish people. The volunteer work we do affects everyone, and it benefits the whole of Milford.”

If you would like to see this year’s Miss Emerald Isle, you can see her at the parade this year, on March 14th at 1:00 pm in downtown Milford.
