Now that Thanksgiving break has ended we all have thought about the things we are thankful for. Before we headed to the Thanksgiving break, Foran and the entire country gave thanks to the brave men and women protecting our nation in honor of Veterans Day. On November 9 Foran hosted a Veterans Day assembly organized by Mr. Cesare, history department head, honoring all who have served. The school brought in both active and retired members from all five branches of the military, as well as Milford Police Department’s honor guard to represent our nation’s colors. During this inspirational assembly members from the military spoke, band and strings performed, and the choir sang and students read poems. This special day also included the special guests visiting history and english classes to tell their own person stories. This day was impactful to many of the students and faculty.
Throughout the following week recruiters and representatives from the U.S Marine Corps, U.S Navy, U.S Army, U.S Air Force, U.S Coast Guard, U.S Coast Guard Academy, and Connecticut National Guard all came to visit interested students in the college and career center. Each day a different branch came to speak to students interested in enlisting, applying to the separate branches respected academies, or pursuing ROTC. At the end of the week The Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery Exam (ASVAB) was given, and many students took advantage of the test. The exam is for students looking to enter the military or simply looking to see what types of trades they are good in.
The week was a success and many students found it helpful. Eryn Zak said “it was great being able to meet with different recruiters all in the comfort of Foran, it’s nice not having to travel around the state to meet with them.” This was just one of the events held at Foran throughout the year which help students all while giving back to the community.
