In a Canadian Cineplex theater in Toronto, we see a sight that has happened multiple times throughout the past year; empty and dead theaters waiting for a sight of normalcy. The Cineplex here is not open for now and is closed for the foreseeable future. While it did reopen around the fall, around Christmas time the province of Ontario went into lockdown again, closing the theater and majority of nonessential businesses. An anonymous Cineplex employee says, “As the vaccine gets spread, people would feel better and are willing to come back. We already lost a lot of money this summer and holiday season so it will take some time before they start making money to go back financially like how we were doing before Covid-19.”

It seems that even if it does open up, it will still not have as much of attendance as it did pre-Covid as films like Godzilla vs Kong will be released in theaters where they are open, and that film is being released in theaters at the same time as online platforms.
