The Girls’ Swim and Dive Team is composed of 23 athletes- 18 swimmers and five divers. They participate in practices and meets at Foran’s pool and have had a successful season so far, looking to finish strong for the remainder of the fall.

Ms. Meghan Condon has been head coach of the team for three years and has been coaching for seven. She swam her entire life and was excited to be offered the chance to get back in the pool. She loves the sense of family the team provides and how hard they all work.

“The spirit and drive these girls bring to each competition is inspiring to me as a coach and make me want to be better every day!”

The team has a clear bond among teammates. The girls work to support each other whenever they can, according to junior Kaitlin Dobkowski, a diver on the team.

“The swimmers are always cheering 100% for the divers and the divers will do the same during the swimming events. We are a very close team that has lots of spirit and always puts their all into supporting every single teammate,” says Dobkowski.

This year, the five senior captains – Ava Candido, Grace Tavitain, Emma Ann Fiorillo, Kathleen Ourfalian, and Caroline Lezko – work hard to lead their team. They have seen the divers improve their scores and the swimmers getting better times in their races.

Candido says, “Being captain is about leadership and respect. It’s good for the team to have five captains because we all have leadership.”

The team has had a successful season so far, winning quite a few of their meets. Mr. Anthony Vitelli, the athletic director, has high hopes for their season.

He says, “Over the last few weeks, The Girls Swimming and Diving Team has had some real exciting and competitive meets. As the regular season winds down the team will now start preparing for the SCC Championships and the CIAC Championships.”

The team’s last home meet is Wednesday, October 27, against Jonathan Law. They will begin their championships immediately after. The SCC Dive Championship begins Saturday, October 30, the CIAC Class M Diving Championship is November 11, and the CIAC Class M Swimming Championship will be on November 16.
