Back in 2001, it began as a small take-out pizza spot on New Haven Avenue, evolving into a full family-owned restaurant by 2007, which is now known as “Jimmy’s Apizza.”
Since the opening, they have been known for serving traditional New Haven-style pizza, attracting many local customers and even Barstool Sports President, Dave Portnoy.
The mission of Jimmy’s Apizza was to serve high-quality food at an affordable price for consumers, making pizza with passion, and passing family recipes down from generation to generation.
Sophomore Thatcher Piscitelli says, “I think that Jimmy’s is so important to me because of their nostalgia and feeling of connection and family that you get every time you walk into the restaurant, as well as the amazing food. I have been going to Jimmy’s for as long as I can remember. Some of my best childhood memories were sitting with my family and enjoying pizza on Friday night while watching sports.”
Being family-owned means it’s special to the owner and its employees. Many of the family members have had great experiences and have had the pleasure of working at Jimmy’s Apizza.
When first opened, Jimmy Ormord was running the Apizza restaurant from its roots, but as time went on, Jimmy’s family started to help tag along with ownership.

Jimmy’s granddaughter and employee Devyn Hogan states, “The 25th year anniversary means a lot to my family. Jimmy’s Apizza isn’t just a restaurant to us, it’s part of our story. My grandparents started it and built it from the ground up, and now my mom and uncle are running it, so it really feels like passing it down. We’re proud of how far it’s come and grateful for everyone in Milford who’s supported us over the years.”
In January of 2025, the family made the decision to renovate the restaurant, making the restaurant more modern, better use of extra space, and making customers want to come back and enjoy the food and atmosphere.
Employee Abby Rochniak says, “The bonds and relationships that I’ve built with my co-workers, they’ve honestly become family over the time I’ve been working there.”
