The stock market is a volatile place. Spikes and drops are part of the picture. When it comes down to the various movements within the market, Jack Bretthauer is quick to figure out why or how they are happening and share his views as a trending influencer on social media.
A Jonathan Law graduate, Bretthauer is a student at Iona University in New Rochelle, NY. On his TikTok channel, Jack.talks.finance, Bretthauer explains the daily happenings in the stock market and what causes them. At Iona, he studies finance, and outside the classroom, he is constantly studying the various growth or declines within the market.
Bretthauer created his channel back in August of 2025, and it has been growing at a fast rate: his audience has almost doubled in the last couple of months. He has been motivated even more lately because his program is consistently growing on all social media platforms.
“I originally started posting because I would be asked in interviews what was going on in the market, but I couldn’t really easily stay up to date, and there weren’t really any accounts out there like mine, so I decided I should just do it myself,” states Bretthauer
While posting multiple times a day, he is also studying for his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam.
Bretthauer says he tries every day to increase his knowledge about the stock market and financial markets, and that’s one of the tips he hopes to pass on to others trying to improve their financial savvy. “Invest in yourself, read more, learn as much as you can,” suggests Bretthauer.
The Milford native posts a video daily to his followers about what is happening in the stock market. On the platform, he explains the most reliable stocks and the spikes or drops within the stock market throughout the day or week.
“It helps me to stay updated on the market as well as learn more about it,” states Bretthauer. “You can never really stop learning, especially in today’s day and age, with all the new information coming out all the time. I’ve really seen a benefit to posting. I probably get 10 messages a day thanking me for my posts. It’s helped people start investing, get into interviews, and just overall.”
His channel has gained a very large audience with many videos going over 40k+ views and having 12.2k followers. Bretthauer explains to his large audience why one stock is at a higher rate than another and gives them advice on whether they should invest or not.
In a recent video, Bretthauer explains the recent drop in stocks due to inflation, then explains how the stocks are being affected, such as Nasdaq, Dow Jones, and SMP 500 being down 1%, and how they might be even more affected within the next couple of weeks due to interest rates and settlements coming in.
“Be patient; people make it seem like it’s a get-rich-quick market, but in reality, the longer you are in the market, the more you will make,” says Bretthauer.
Bretthauer was always interested in finance. He was a different student when he was in a business class: his teachers noticed his knowledge was well above that of others in the classroom.
“Jack took a variety of business courses at Law,” explains business teacher Joseph Beler. “He took marketing, stock market investing, and sports marketing. Jack was a very motivated business student and didn’t want to just get the answers correct or a good grade, but to understand why the decisions were made. This deeper understanding is what separated him from many of the other students in the class.”
Bretthauer was the president of FBLA at Jonathan Law and captain of the track team.
After college, Bretthauer plans on going into asset management, but he truly does not know how far his channel might go. He plans on growing it to the point where it can be a full-time job.
“I’m currently studying for the CFA Level 1 and plan on finishing all three tiers as well as getting my CPA license,” he says. “Overall, I want to go into asset management, but this content has really taken off, so I would be open to seeing if it is something I could turn into a full-time position.”
Now opening his own website https://jacktalksfinance.com/, Bretthauer gives his audience another platform to explore and have the opportunity to learn more knowledge of the market.
