When students enter the gym, they’re greeted with more than just an activity; they’re met with Mr. Thomas Hair’s upbeat energy and welcoming smile.
Hair has been teaching here for three years now, although it’s been a short time, he has made a big impact.
Hair wanted to follow into the physical education field since he was in seventh grade. Growing up, he always had a dedication to gym class.
Hair states, “I love seeing students interact and engage in different areas of school.”
Not only does he like the class, but he loves seeing his students expand throughout the class.
Hair has been evolving his class for students throughout the years. Hair claims that the best part of his job is the flexibility in his curriculum, to change his activities based on students’ requests.
Hair has changed his class in countless ways, such as combining with the other gym teacher, Ms. Cathy GaNun, where they collaborate with their different ideas and even get to combine into one class.
“We have combined many classes, which allows us to offer different activities to encourage students’ choice when outdoors,” says GaNun.
GaNun and Hair think alike, making the time they spend together helping each other grow as teachers.
“It has been wonderful working with a like-minded individual. We both encourage our students to actively engage in our activities,” says GaNun.
Hair has loved every minute of being here. He believes that Foran is the best place he’s taught, not only because of the students but because of the fellow staff.
Junior Matt Martin states, “Mr. Hair has welcomed me since my first day at Foran and has helped so much.” He went on to add, “I feel like I can always count on him being there for me when I need help with anything.”
Hair has built great relationships over the years, one being his colleague, Ms. Megan Hosking.
Hosking said, “When I got a job here last year, he was my mentor through being a new teacher.”
In just over a year of working together, Hair and Hosking have developed a strong partnership, planning lessons side by side.
Hosking describes Hair as “Very dedicated to his job inside and outside of the classroom.”
Overall, Hair has created a positive and supportive environment where students and teachers feel encouraged to grow. His enthusiasm, teamwork, and dedication to his students make him an important part of the Foran community. Hair’s passion goes beyond the gym walls, leaving an impact wherever he goes.
