Artificial Intelligence (AI) has undergone rapid development over the past few years. ChatGPT, the leading AI chatbot, has released its fifth version since its launch on November 30, 2022. Naturally, it has found its way into the school environment. Both students and teachers utilize AI in their respective work.
With the rise of AI, major companies have seen their stocks rise higher than before. According to ExploadingTopics.com, “the AI market is expanding at a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 31.5%.”
Companies, such as Microsoft, Google, and NVIDIA, can use the increased funds to help schools. Google, for example, helps schools with their programs, such as Google Classroom.
Mark Berlin, a senior at Foran, is an active member of the finance club and has his own stock portfolio, which includes many AI stocks.
Berlin remarks, “AI stocks have risen a lot. They have accounted for most of the growth in our stock market over the last year. Some AI stocks have risen over 400 percent in the past year, which is unheard of.”
The increase in the use of AI can also be seen in the stock market, as AI companies’ stocks have risen exponentially over the past couple of years.
Teachers have also been incorporating AI in their classrooms due to its rapid development. They primarily use AI to simplify information for their students. Instead of giving a student a large paragraph, they are able to simplify the information and make it easier to understand.
“When used properly, it can open the door to learning and retaining more information,” Foran AI Committee Member Mrs. Chelsea Green states.
Teachers aren’t the only ones utilizing AI. With unlimited access to certain AI tools, students are able to conduct research more efficiently. AI can take information and organize and simplify it so students are able to understand it better.
Spell checkers such as Grammarly are a form of AI that students utilize to help with their grammar and spelling.
“I check my grammar and try to use it for inspiration, like I can develop [ideas] in writing pieces or any type of homework,” comments Senior Colin Monahan.
AI has made a name for itself in education. From teachers making work easier to follow to students improving their grammar and work, AI has made a large impact on schools.
AI continues to develop, and how we use it in school is ultimately going to shape the way it impacts our schools.
