Once snow starts to fall, Foran’s Ski Club begins. Each school year, Foran offers a ski club for students interested in skiing or snowboarding. Ski Club members travel around New England to go to mountains, including one overnight trip.
This year, the ski club is going on two different trips. These trips include a night trip to Jiminy Peak in Massachusetts and an overnight trip to Sugarloaf Mountain and the Sunday River resort, both in Maine.
Knowledge of skiing or snowboarding isn’t needed for the ski club, though. Students not only learn how to navigate the slopes, but they also form bonds with other students in the process.
“Ski trips are amazing for making friends and memories. I have seen so many friendships grow just from the few trips a year. I’ve never seen someone go home unhappy,” states advisor Ms. Chelsea Green.
Green is a ski club advisor along with Mr. Todd Williams and Mr. Jeff Blude. The roles of ski club advisors are to plan and complete forms, chaperone and monitor trips, seek out ski patrols on the mountains, and, of course, ski the mountains. Not only do they help run the ski club, but they get to witness the fun part of it, too.
“Skiing is a lifelong activity and is a great way to build friendships and strengthen relationships with other students at Foran,” says Williams.
Students join the ski club for various reasons. Junior Mackenzie Maybeck explains why she joined the ski club.
“I’ve been skiing my whole life, and we have great opportunities to go to bigger mountains and travel around, meet new people, and make new friends,” Maybeck says.
Students have created many memories through the ski club. These memories have been added to throughout each season.

“My favorite memory is probably just trying out the new mountains with my friends and trying all the slopes that they have to offer,” states junior Elexus Wyman.
Students don’t have to go on trips just for skiing or snowboarding. This year, students may also go on the trips to spend time at the different resorts in the mountains.
“I liked going to the little shops, stopping at food places, and being at the hotel altogether,” states Maybeck, “We made memories not just on the mountain, but off the mountain too!”
Students who choose to do this have access to the lodges, restaurants, and shopping in the mountains. Shuttles are provided in some instances to get around while everyone else is on the mountain.
Through trips and new experiences, students who decide to join the ski club will not only go on different trips but also strengthen their bonds with other students. The ski club is a great way to not only ski or snowboard, but also to learn new skills.
