National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day honors officers who dedicate their lives to serving the local communities. From school resource officers to officers patrolling the streets, January 9 is a day to recognize the commitment and service of those who work to keep the community safe.
At Foran, School Resource Officer (SRO) Micaela Kreitman did not begin her career in law enforcement. She originally worked in the fitness industry, where she found it invaluable to work with the younger generation. That experience shaped her decision to become a police officer and eventually an SRO.
Kreitman states that she hoped “to be an influence” and wanted to “help guide the future generations.”
Building relationships is one of the most important tasks for an SRO. Kreitman believes that visibility and presence are very important to building those relationships. “I try to say good morning to everyone who walks in.” Kreitman also makes an effort to learn students’ names and be available whenever someone needs support. “My door is always open if you need someone to talk to,” Kreitman adds.

While Officer Kreitman’s work is mainly focused on campus, the extent of her influence reaches further than just Foran’s halls and continues to work hand-in-hand with the Milford Police Department. Former Foran SRO and current Detective Kayleigh Kish believes the community within Milford is one of the best things about her job.
Kish states, “Milford is such a diverse and tight-knit community and very supportive of the police department here. I have made so many positive connections in this community since working as an officer here.”
Serving with the Milford Police Department for seven years, Kish has held various positions, including patrol officer and SRO, while also being a member of the honor guard.
Kish chose a career in law enforcement to be the type of officer who steps up to respond in the case she or a member of her family was ever in need.
National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day is one that Kish uses to reflect on both her own and the bravery of many others who share the same passion as her.
Law Enforcement works tirelessly every day to protect their community, including local schools. Assistant Principal Dena Kelly appreciates a lot about what they do. “Our SROs and police officers in the community are always there for us. The partnership between Milford Public Schools and the Milford Police Department is truly exceptional.” Kelly adds that their interests go far beyond safety. “It is clear that they have the best interests of our students, staff, and families at heart. The care they show for individuals is evident.”
