Since her freshman year, sophomore Maria Azpiri-Sudusky has been rewriting Foran’s sports history. According to athletic.net, she holds eight school records in indoor and outdoor track, quickly becoming a reckoning force.
Breaking three outdoor records, including the 1600m, 3200m, and 4x800m relay, Azpiri-Sudusky looks to continue her reign of dominance this upcoming spring season. Additionally, her five indoor track records, ranging from the 600m to the 3200m, demonstrate her multifaceted skill set.
Azpiri-Sudusky’s first record was secured in indoor track last season on February 8, 2025, running a 3:15.03 1000m as a freshman. This feat gave her confidence and validated her lifelong training, contributing to her future success.
“I grew up running the Woodmont 5k, so running was always a part of my life,” Azpiri-Sudusky says. Furthermore, she is a multi-sport athlete, excelling on and off the track.
Her talents have carried over to soccer, where she plays a pivotal role on Foran’s girls’ soccer team, scoring the game-winning goal in the 2025 Class M State Championship.
Azpiri-Sudusky’s motivation comes from both reflection and discipline.

“Some things that help me stay motivated are remembering how proud my younger self would be of what I’m accomplishing today,” she said. “I also like to remind myself to trust my training and that pain is temporary, but results are forever.”
Moreover, her father and future girls’ outdoor head coach, Mr. John Sudusky, has been her biggest support system throughout her track journey.
“He provides me with all my workouts and race plans, and I don’t know what I would do without him,” Azpiri-Sudusky states.
As a former collegiate track coach and having coached a national championship relay team at Hamden High School, her father’s experience has gone a long way in helping her improve.
“Without question, Maria’s greatest attribute is her work ethic. She is one of the hardest-working athletes I have coached,” says Sudusky.
By instilling hard work, determination, and friendship into her life, Azpiri-Sudusky has undoubtedly made a name for herself.
Sudusky notes, “Her strong work ethic, academic success, and competitive track times will make her a desirable recruit. I look forward to helping her and all of the girls be their best during this upcoming spring track season.”
Azpiri-Sudusky plans on furthering her athletic career by running track in college. With her continuous improvement, she is poised to excel.
